How does neoliberalism differ from liberalism?

face=Arial>The modern industrial revolution significantly enhance the material

civilization of mankind, but also caused many social problems come to the fore,

such as pollution, child labor, overcrowding and urban population. The increase

of human life, material and scientific progress, reducing mortality, and

therefore the explosive population growth. This has resulted in the problem of

excessive labor, reduce the average wage.Milton Friedman pointed out that the

phenomenon is not caused by poverty, population increase this era, but the

phenomenon of poverty is more visible ".The classical liberal economists, such

as John Locke, Adam Smith, William von Humboldt, that these problems will be

corrected by the industrial society, without the need of government

intervention. In the 19th century, the majority of democratic countries have

extended the right to vote, these newly enfranchised citizens are often inclined

to support government intervention in the policy developed by the improvement of

literacy rates, and the dissemination of knowledge in various forms of community

activism.Important genre of 19th century social liberalism (Social liberalism)

became the first breakaway from classical liberalism, social liberalism

advocates legislation to ban child labor and minimum wage provisions of labor,

and these are both advocates of laissez-faire economic freedomadvocates as a

policy of obstruction of free, but also that these policies will affect economic

development.

face=Arial>To the end of the 19th century, from the liberalism of the split has

been gradually expanded, they think in order to achieve the goal of freedom, the

individual must be for the conditions to achieve their goals, including

education and protection from exploitation.Hobhouse (Leonard Trelawny Hobhouse)

with the liberalism in 1911, he summed up the concept of neo-liberalism (New

liberalism) is in favor of government intervention in the economy, and should

ensure that everyone in the trade whenequal rights.Hobhouse, liberalism and

classical liberalism difference is too great, Hayek even pointed out that it

should be called "socialism" more correct (Hobhouse did claim to his theory as a

"liberal socialist").Classical liberalism believe that the philosophy of freedom

in each area equally expanded (rather than be limited in some areas), they are

very opposed to the neo-liberal policies, such as firearms and Management Act,

the Equal Rights Act (Affirmative action to encourage recruitmentThe policy of

women and minorities), high taxes, social welfare and support of public schools,

these are classical liberals believe that a violation of freedom of the

individual policy. In the United States, "liberalism" has already changed the

original intent of Hayek that the change in meaning from Roosevelt's term of

office, Roosevelt implemented the New Deal was labeled socialism and left-wing

label, due to fears of these labelsThe negative effects of Roosevelt and he

changed the claim to be liberals.Since then, the term "liberal" in the United

States to change the meaning of the original 18th and 19th century liberalism is

completely different.

小组成员跟帖:Neoliberalism brings society an effective way to develop a growing economy. At the same time it brings negative influences, which causes not a few oppositions. Undoubtedly, neoliberalism plays an essential role in economic history, in which what we get is much more than what it costs.Neoliberalism is a contemporary political movement advocating economic liberalizations, free trade and open markets. Neoliberalism supports the privatization of nationalized industries, deregulation, and enhancing the role of the private sector in modern society.

It seems that the work has been done in a way of teamwork.

One member just focused on liberalism and the other on neoliberalism.

Working this way is really cooperative, though not so productive.
